The forthcoming annual meeting of the Commission internationale d’histoire et d’?tude du christianisme’, to which the Catholic Historical Society of Ireland is affiliated, will take place in Jerusalem from 29 May to 1
June. There will be a conference titled ‘Peace and Religion in
Monotheistic Tradition’ organised by Professor Yvonne Friedman, and the
annual CIHEC reunion will be held in between the sessions.

The programme for the conference is as follows:

– Sunday 29 May: Pre-conference tour in Jerusalem

– Monday 30 May: Opening of the conference at Van Leer Institute. Evening: Festive dinner

– Tuesday 31 May: Conference at Bar-Ilan University. CIHEC meeting. Evening: dinner

– Wednesday 1 June: Closing session at Haifa university, lunch and guided tour to Acre.

 

The accompanying image is a late eighteenth-century portrait of the family of Pedro Alonso Alphonsus O’Crouley (1740-1817), the C?diz merchant of Irish extraction, who was a distinguished expert in numismatics and the author of a highly regarded Description of Spanish America. The painting, whose current whereabouts are unknown, is the work of Nicolas Delarriva.
