On Saturday, 3 November 2012, a volume of essays entitled Confraternities and sodalities in Ireland: charity, devotion and sociability,
and edited by Colm Lennon, was launched in NUI Maynooth during the
Catholic Historical Society of Ireland conference. The book, which arose
out of a conference held in 2007 and which was based on an
IRCHSS-funded project in the university, was launched by Professor
Jacqueline Hill. The work, published by Columba Press, contains a set of
ten essays which offer a variety of perspectives on the origins,
flourishing and decline of these associations of the devout in Ireland.
