Conference on Jansenism, Bayonne December 2012

A colloquium entitled 'Bayonne, berceau du jansénisme ? Naissance et cristallisation du mouvement janséniste dans la société de son temps (1610-1643)' was held in Bayonne on 6-8 December 2012.It was sponsored by La Societé des Sciences et Lettres de Bayonne and supported by the city of Bayonne. The colloquium brought together a selection of experts from around the world, who presented the most recent research on the enduring influence of Jansenism and on its historical roots in the Bayonne area....

On Saturday, 3 November 2012, a volume of essays entitled Confraternities and sodalities in Ireland: charity, devotion and sociability, and edited by Colm Lennon, was launched in NUI Maynooth during the Catholic Historical Society of Ireland conference. The book, which arose out of a conference held in 2007 and which was based on an IRCHSS-funded project in the university, was launched by Professor Jacqueline Hill....

Launch of Centenary Issue of Archivium Hibernicum

The centenary issue of Archivium Hibernicum was launched at the recent conference of the Catholic Historical Soceity of Ireland, held in NUI Maynooth on Friday and Saturday 2-3 November 2012. An oration was delivered on the Friday evening by Professor Dáire Keogh, newly appointed president of St Patrick's College/DCU. Archivium Hibernicum (2012) has a Spanish flavour

Spain and the Spanish connection with Ireland are among the features of the 2012 issue of Archivium Hibernicum. Ciaran O'Scea, the renowned expert on early modern Irish migrants to Spain, presents to the the public, for the very first time, an annotated version of important documents concerning the early modern Irish in Spain. Of particular interest are the documents concerning the assasination of Domnall Cam O'Sullivan Beare. This sustantial collection of documents sheds new light on the activities of the Irish in Spain at a crucial moment in Irish-Spanish and Anglo-Spanish relations....
